Nokia wanted to communicate its commitment to reducing energy consumption by talking about simple, everyday actions that everyone could do. The biggest challenge was overcoming apathy – how can you reach and engage people in a dry subject matter?
Our insight was to create personality and cause for the issue. We helped to create simple actions and pledges to engage people in order to deliver pragmatic energy-saving information. The campaign launched using public service messaging: “Let’s pull the plug on energy waste”. Plug sockets from around the world were our mouthpieces for the campaign, communicating energy-saving tips and facts. People pledged to change their actions via their own customised plug and commentary.
Over 200,000 people driven to the Earth Hour website. Several thousand visitors pledged to save energy, using simple every day actions such as not charging their phones overnight. All messages were distributed via owned and earned media channels.
