Last night the APG hosted a talk by Jon Leach on the Mathematics of Creativity.

The current planning director at Bell Pottinger Group took us through how he’s been using basic maths to unpack and explain to businesses why the endless pursuit of creativity is, and will always be, best left to agencies like us.

Posing questions like; ‘Why are things sticky?’, ‘How many ideas are enough?’ and, ‘What even is an idea?’ he lead us through equations on the power of compound interest, depreciating returns and the statistical likeness of co-incidence.

Whilst some of his mathematical applications felt a little shoehorned, he’s definitely found a few interesting ways to help the left-brainers understand what’s got the right-brainers all worked up. If you’re interested have a look at his blog http://patternrecognition.typepad.com/

I think the answer is 4.
